The header on my home page states, “Information multiplied by knowledge equals opportunity.” Nowhere is this truer than in the world of investing. Having worked in and written about the financial services industry going on two decades, I’ve seen first hand many of the mistakes individuals make trying to grow their hard-earned money.
In 2008, investors of all stripes including myself, lost a significant amount of money. It wasn’t easy to watch every day as the markets continued to erode. But there’s a lesson from all of this.
Investing is serious business.
If you aren’t prepared to spend more time on your investments, you shouldn’t be making them. Period. I don’t care if you’ve got Warren Buffett as your personal investment adviser, you must fully understand where your money is invested and why. Anything less is a disservice to you and your family.
Read a book, visit a web site, take a class. Educate yourself. There’s no substitute for knowledge. Whether investing or life in general.
